At least 37 states have laws regarding “stigmatized properties”. California doesn’t have a disclosure requirement for hauntings, but does require sellers to disclose if a person died on the property within the last 3 years. In Nevada, a death disclosure is only required if there was a defect in the house that caused the death.

Most people know the small, interior windows at the top of a door are called “transom windows” and are meant to allow natural light into darker rooms and hallways. Windows between rooms, however, are called “tuberculosis windows”. In the 19th century, they were mandated in New York City where officials believed cross-ventilation reduced the spread of the disease. In 1901, the city passed a law requiring exterior windows in each room of a residence.
